Celebrating Diwali with Colors and Creativity:

Rangoli Competition at Gajera International School

Diwali, the festival of lights, is a time when families come together to celebrate the triumph of good over evil. It’s a festival that’s not just about lighting lamps but also about spreading joy, love, and creativity. At Gajera International School, Utran, Diwali was celebrated with great enthusiasm this year, and one of the highlights of the celebration was the Rangoli Competition.

Rangoli is a traditional Indian art form where intricate, colorful patterns are created on the ground, usually at the entrance of homes, to welcome guests and Hindu deities. These beautiful designs are made using colored rice, dry flour, flower petals, or colored sand. Rangoli is not just about creating visually appealing patterns but also a reflection of our rich culture and tradition.

What made this year’s Diwali celebration at Gajera International School special was the Rangoli Competition that brought together learners from Grade 4 to 11. This event was not only a way to showcase creativity but also to encourage students of different age groups to participate and bond over a shared cultural experience.

On the morning of 7th November, 2023, the school’s courtyard came alive with an array of vibrant Rangoli designs. Students worked diligently, carefully selecting their colors and forming patterns that ranged from traditional motifs to more contemporary and abstract art.

The colorful designs represented not only the creative talents of the participants but also their deep connection to Indian culture. The choice of colors, symmetry, and attention to detail were remarkable, making it evident that a great deal of thought and effort went into each Rangoli.

A panel of judges, consisting of art teachers, had the tough task of evaluating the Rangoli designs. They assessed various aspects, including creativity, symmetry, use of colors, and overall visual impact. Every Rangoli told a unique story, making the judging process even more challenging.

The Rangoli Competition was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Diwali celebration at the school. It demonstrated that Diwali is not just about lighting lamps and bursting firecrackers but also about celebrating our culture, traditions, and the creativity that resides within each one of us. It was a beautiful representation of the school’s commitment to holistic education and fostering a love for art and culture.
